We are pleased to announce that Professor Håvard Haarstad, Director of the Centre for Climate and Energy Transformation (CET) at the University of Bergen (Norway) will give an inspiring keynote speech at SSPCR 2019.
Haarstad’s research currently focuses on how mobile ideas and policies are shaping the way cities are becoming sustainable. He also leads the research project European cities as actors in climate and energy transformation, where multiple case studies are investigated to understand the spatiality of the policy formation process of making sustainable cities.
In his keynote speech, Haarstad will address the question of how to catalyse sustainable transformation in places and cities. It draws on one of his recent publications, “Are smart city projects catalyzing urban energy sustainability?”, which argues that urban actors engage actively, creatively and strategically with discourses ‘from above’ – such as the smart city discourse. Building on this, he discuss the potential for local action and innovation to contribute to wider scale transformation.
